Instructions to authors

Fungal Diversity is an international journal that publishes papers in all fields of mycology, with preference in biodiversity, systematics, and molecular phylogeny. Review papers are welcome. Papers should be at least seven pages in Fungal Diversity Format. Publication is open to all persons. Corresponding authors will receive their published articles in PDF format. We do not encourage checklists as these should normally be published in regional journals. Introduction of new species and genera should normally be supported by molecular data.

General Instructions
• Authors should first submit abstracts through this automated system. The authors will receive acknowledgement through email within seven days after submitting. If the paper is considered suitable the authors will then be asked to submit full manuscripts.
• Electronic manuscripts should be submitted in word format. For review purposes all figures and tables should be inserted into the text. All plates should be provided as jpeg files, all line drawings and figures as TIFF files and all phylogenetic trees as powerpoint files. Resolution should be 600 dpi. Excel files for Tables are not acceptable.
• The template of manuscript can be downloaded from the web site at the end of this page.
• Page size 21.6 × 28 cm (8.5 × 11 inches), leave 2 cm margin on all sides and 1.5-spaced throughout. All paragraphs should be indented and justified aligned, except tables that should be left aligned.
• The content should be set out into four major sections: (i) Introduction; (ii) Materials and methods; (iii) Results; and (iv) Discussion, in most circumstances. Acknowledgements, references, figure legends, figures and tables should be followed in order. Commonly used abbreviations are as follows: (i) volume: mL; (ii) length: km; (iii) concentration: M; (iv) weight: kg; (v) temperature: °C; (vi) others: Fig., Figs. Months are not abbreviated.
• Take all symbols from symbol (normal text) in MS Word.
• Words of non-English origin, like in vivo, et al., ibid. and scientific names should be italicised.
• Brackets are used in the following order: {level 3 [level 2 (level 1)]}.
• Citation of nomenclatural authorities for taxa is optional except for taxonomic papers. For abbreviation of authors' names, use http://www.indexfungorum.org /Names/AuthorsOfFungalNames.asp.
• Multiple references cited in text should be in chronological order, while multiple references from the same year are cited in alphabetical order. Where there are three or more authors, cite the first name only in text, adding et al. for all citations (Armstrong, 2000; Bell and Bell, 2000; Armstrong et al., 2002a,b, 2003).
• References in reference list should be in ascending order of authors' names first, followed by year. Journal names and book titles should be spelt in full form.
• Figures should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers, and in the order that they are referenced in the text.
• Figures must be submitted as electronic files and they must be composed into plates. Figures must fit a maximum of 20 cm high by 13.5 wide including space for the legend after reduction. Single photographs that need mounting together are not acceptable. Electronic figures must be captured at or above 600 dpi resolution.
• Sequences must be deposited in the GenBank, full alignment of datasets must be submitted to the TreeBASE and a Mycobank number must be added for new species and taxonomic changes.
• Please note that all papers in Fungal Diversity are peer reviewed.

English revision editorial policy

• Papers will be sent for review and editors will check the scientific as well as English content. Authors however cannot expect editors to significantly rewrite poor English. Therefore if the paper is scientifically acceptable but the English requires substantial rewriting the paper will be rejected and returned to the authors. We however will offer an English Revision Service and will inform you of the costs involved. You may also find someone else to rewrite the English content of your papers. In this case you must resubmit the revised manuscript with a letter from the English reviser stating that he now considers the paper of sound English.

English revision rate is 100 USD per hr.
